Mitcham Girls High School

Fusco Constructions were contracted for the construction of a new modular classroom building at Mitcham Girls High School. The build is part of the state-wide transition of year 7 students to senior school campuses. This involved the construction of a new modular building of 1,500m with 8 general learning areas, two multi-purpose spaces including a fitness centre, a small reception area, change room facility, student and access toilets, external decking and more.

Fusco worked with the School, its design team and the Department of Education and Sensum to bring the project back on budget, which the previous builder could not achieve, whilst still maintaining the cutting edge design that pushed the boundaries of modular construction. The project faced a number of hurdles, 8 classes not being able to be demolished, the need for off-site construction to resolve this, contaminated fill, asbestos, significant trees, limited access and the challenges of working with a functioning school.
